Today, I am reviewing the "Jumbo Maaltijdsalade Gerookte Zalm 450 g", or the smoked salmon salad for short.
This was an intersting salad. I'm not typically so interested in fish but I do enjoy salmon. What a fun word to say in English. Salmon. Sa-mon. Sal-mon.
I like the salad mix here, it's quite different from the Grilled Chicken, which is currently The Standard. I really like the red onions and I think it served as a good contrast against the salmon, in terms of mouth feel and texture. The salmon is very subtle in this regard.
Actually, the salmon barely registers as an individual element, it feels like it flavours the bits, but is not its own entity, per se. This is partially because there is not that much salmon in th salad. That being said, I do think it's a good amount of salmon, both in terms of value for money but also in terms of balance in the salad.
As far as the dressing, I could take it or leave it. I think I prefer creamier dressings, though I'm not sure if it would've worked in this particular salad. So the dressing was the right choice for the salad, but if the best a salad can have is a middling dressing, why have that sort of salad in the first place?
Overall, it is a 3/5. I do not think I will eat this salad again, and if served to me, I will be disappointed. But it is very edible.
